W2W4 June 26, 2013 – Reyes Returns

The Blue Jays have activated All-Star shortstop Jose Reyes from the 60-day disabled list and have penciled him in to the leadoff spot for this afternoon’s game against the Rays.

Reyes had been sidelined for 66 games after severely spraining his ankle on April 12th. At that time, Toronto was sputtering and in last place. Now, after an 11-game win streak, the Blue Jays are right back in the mix of the AL East race.

Toronto hopes that Reyes’ return will provide the same kind of boost as the guy whose roster spot he will be taking.

Sadly, to make room for Reyes, Blue Jays brass decided to option the magnanimous Munenori Kawasaki to Triple-A Buffalo. Many credit Kawasaki’s infections enthusiasm and energy for relieving some of the pressure Jays players were feeling amidst the poor start and allowing them to go on their run.
