Controversy erupted in December when it was revealed that the Atlanta Braves would be using the above design as its new batting practice cap for Spring Training. The politically incorrect “screaming Indian” cap – which I personally love – has since been scrapped.
Nonetheless, all 30 MLB franchises will be sporting brand new batting practice caps during Spring Training this year, and some more than one. Paul Lukas of Uni-Watch.com gave us our first look at the new MLB designs. They say imitation is the greatest form of flattery. We here at Seeds All Day are huge fans of Lukas’ work over at Uni-Watch, and so we have taken the time to formulate 0ur own rankings of the new caps, though we chose to do so in our own, unique way. We have broken the caps down into categories based on their appeal to us, personally.
The “Love At First Sight” Group
These are the cream of the crop. The kind that when we see, we want, and want now. There really is no science of formula behind what makes a cap design the best. But these are the ones that we would be openly willing to shell out market price for, regardless of our personal fan affiliations.
The “I Like Where Your Head’s At” Group
These were the designs that piqued our interest, but didn’t floor us. While we wouldn’t pay market price for these caps, we would certainly be willing to pick them up at a discount on eBay.
The “Probably Looks Better In Person” Group
These caps do have some promise, but it’s too tough to tell from pictures alone just how good (or bad) they would look when worn. We would graciously accept any of these caps as a gift, we just aren’t taking the risk of paying for them.
The “Meh…” Group
The “Meh” category is reserved for those designs that are simply uninspired. Spring Training is supposed to be the time of the year that clubs let their hair down and relax, especially with uniform and cap designs. These teams must have missed the memo, because their 2013 updates too easily glossed over.
The “No Chance, No How” Group
No sir, we don’t like them. We don’t want them. And we wouldn’t even take them off of your hands for free. Not only do these designs lack inspiration, they are simply unwearable.
We want to know what you think!
